COOMBE BRIDGE, Yorkshire Dales.   009

Coombe Bridge, Yorkshire Dales.

This layout is now situated in the Skipton/Settle area of the Yorkshire Dales and represents a narrow gauge railway that has been rebuilt on a long abandoned standard gauge trackbed (think Kirklees Light Railway, Clayton West off the Penistone line from Huddersfield to Sheffield).

It is set in modern times and uses narrow gauge locomotives and stock that run on 2 foot gauge and feature diesels and steam locomotives, along with an odd collection of diesel/petrol powered trams....

TRANSPORT

Just like Brian, I've now got a more suitable car for transporting it, along with our art projects! - well it will be by the time the rear seats are removed!

AMENDING THE LAYOUT

One of the first things to do is replace the cockled backscenes (with a painted version which won't cockle!), which I'll do one at a time when working on the boards. At the same time, I will be adding more mill type buildings, some of which will be apartment conversions, which seems to be the 'thing' to do around the Dales at the present time.

Forget Corbyn's and May's hoped for landslides, this is mine when the bookshelf and books collapsed on "Coombe Bridge"

UPDATE: 25th JANUARY 2018

I've now decided to only replace one of the mill sections and use the other part of to fit some modern detached buildings in the place occupied by the second mill section. Below is a picture of the buildings roughly in place (they need painting, detailing etc first and I need to find an unassembled kit of the same size to replace the building on the left). Also, the style of backscene I intend to use is shown in the background.

1st February 2018: Change of plans (!!!), as I decided that the buildings above, would be more suitable for Poppit Heritage Railway 009, as they were more seaside(ish)!, so I acquired three lazercut wooden low relief kits and they have just be positioned to see if they look OK, before they are detailed and painted (See below)

Below: Some of the 009 stock that can be used on "Coombe Bridge" and "Poppit Heritage Railway"...

UPDATE: 9th APRIL 2018

Called in at West Lancashire Light Railway, who have a short length of track and an interesting collection of narrow gauge locomotives, coaches and freight stock. Along with a very helpful and friendly staff!  Gave me some ideas for Poppit Sands track layout..

UPDATE: 20th SEPTEMBER 2018

Now back into modelling "Coombe Bridge", with a go at finishing off the art gallery and the new buildings, then I'll be getting on with painting the backscenes...

UPDATE: 3rd OCTOBER 2018

I've been building some locomotives, trams, wagons and coaches to build up stock for the layout. Photos to follow...

Four sets of trestles (giving me eight in total) have been ordered, which will make it easier to set up!

UPDATE: 20th JANUARY 2019

and this is the section that has changed the most...

The mill/factory needs drainpipes, the entrance repainting, the roofs painting, the wall that ran from the chapel needs rebuilding, the detached house in the front needs the fence over the garage built to make a patio area and the abandoned shop on the left, which is being rebuilt, needs the roof painting and workmen added.

Also to the left of the mill, the new retaining wall needs coping stones and another entrance added to the left of the mill, then the cobbles bedded in and painted, as does the chimney...
